Some say BC means โBring Cashโ, particularly on the Gulf Islands and our major cities where taxes have risen substantially.
Like many civic governments, the Islands Trust has been expanding their mandate with associated tax increases business and residents pay. Have a look at the substantial budget growth, an increase of $1.5M (19%) over the 4 years of the current Trust Council. Taking on all the new regulatory powers inherent in the New Draft Policy Statement will make living here even more costly.
On top of this various academics and lobby groups (unions and left-wing organizations) are calling for HIGHER property taxes on struggling home and business homeowners.

A UBC Professor wants YOU to pay even higher property #taxes ๐ฐ. Canadian homeowners, especially seniors, are increasingly being targeted for new wealth taxes, revealed in a recent Blacklock's Reporter* news investigation. ๐๏ธ
The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) paid nearly half a million dollars to UBC Professor Paul Kershaw (also a BC government housing tax advisor) to study new housing "equity taxes" that would ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฑ๐ผ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ป๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐น๐. He claims seniors are "privileged" and should pay even higher taxes for home values that rise "while they sleep and watch tv." ๐ค ๐บ
